Tracing The Wild’s audio collection brings the Maasai Mara to life through sound.
These twenty-minute soundscapes created by Mercy Barno were composed from field recordings of nature as well as interviews with members of the conservation community and those who live near lions in the Maasai Mara. The tracks masterfully weave together stories, savannah sounds, and music to create a rich tapestry of sound, with each track having a unique emphasis and flavor.
The tracks were designed as an accompaniment to the visual artwork installation of the portraits of lions Sintamei, Mama Kali and Naramat by Chuma Anagbado and Daria Smakhtina, but they also function as immersive artworks in themselves, transporting listeners into the heart of Africa.
Each track may be collected individually, and all three tracks may be played simultaneously through a three-channel system to simulate the installation setup for Tracing The Wild’s premiere at Nairobi Design Week.
